Brains behind businesses
The Chapter is an affiliated overseas member body of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (‘CA
Sri Lanka’) and was registered as an Association on the 16 th October 2020 for the members of CA Sri Lanka living
in Australia following the Inaugural General Meeting held on 27th September 2020. Any CA Sri Lanka member currently living in Australia is eligible to become a member of the Chapter.
CHAPTER TIMELINE
History
2008-2018
CA Sri Lanka actively promoted the formation of overseas Chapters and multiple Chapters were established in the Middle East region. 2008: Qatar, 2010: Bahrain, 2014: Kuwait, 2015: UAE, 2018: KSA
2009-2014
Discussions were held between the past President, CEO of CA Sri Lanka and member groups in Australia to form a chapter in Australia.
2013
CA Sri Lanka signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement with CPA Australia.
2018
- Lasantha Wickremasinghe, past President of CA Sri Lanka visited Melbourne and had discussions to form a Chapter.
- CA Sri Lanka signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement with CA ANZ
February 2020
- Jagath Perera, past President of CA Sri Lanka visited Sydney and
Melbourne in February 2020 and continued the discussions with
members for the formation of the Chapter. - The “CASL Members in Australia” WhatsApp group created to interact
with CA Sri Lanka members with the intention in formation of a
formal Chapter in Australia.
27 September 2020
- The inaugural General Meeting was virtually held with the attendance of
120+ CA Sri Lanka members in Australia. - Manil Jayasinghe, President, past Presidents, Jagath Perera,
Lasantha Wickremasinghe and the Council members of CA Sri Lanka attended. - Formation of CA Sri Lanka ~ Australia (Victoria) Chapter Inc.
- The First Executive Committee of the Chapter was elected.
16 October 2020
CA Sri Lanka ~ Australia (Victoria) Chapter Inc. was formally
incorporated and registered with Consumer Affairs of Victoria
(CAV).
2020/21
The Executive Committee of the Chapter formed various Committees in
following areas:
- Continuous Professional Development
- Member Support
- IT and Communications
- Over 100 CA Sri Lanka members living in Australia obtained life
membership of the Chapter.
2021/22
- The Chapter was renamed to CA Sri Lanka Australia Chapter representing it as the National Chapter in Australia of CA Sri Lanka.
- The website of the Chapter was officially launched.
- Grants and Sponsorship committee was formed
- The first in-person CPD event was held since the inception of the Chapter.
2022/23
- Chartered Ball was held in May 2023
- ‘Reignite Sri Lanka 2023 Business Forum’, bridging businesses in Australia and in Sri Lanka was held in May 2023
- Academic Forum was organized to support CA Sri Lanka\
- Investor and Business Relations committee was formed
- CA Sri Lanka – Australia Chapter Scholarship Fund was launched
- First in person CPD event was held in Perth, Western Australia
2023/24
- Members’ Family Day.
- Business Forum themed “Resilient and Rising”.
- Chartered Ball – the Golden Gala.
- Chapter Conference themed “Navigating the Future”.
- Launched the CA Sri Lanka – Australia Chapter YouTube Channel.
