Chartered Ball 2025 – The Oscars – Anniversary Celebration

 

A Red-Carpet Night of Glamour, Connection & Community Impact

 

On 21 June 2025, the CA Sri Lanka – Australia Chapter hosted its hallmark event of the year – the Chartered Ball 2025 – The Oscars – at the elegant Grand on Princes Hall, Melbourne.

 

This dazzling red-carpet gala welcomed over 300 guests, including members, families, friends, and distinguished leaders from CA Sri Lanka, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), and CPA Australia. It was a night where elegance met purpose – celebrating milestones, building connections, and making a difference.

 

An Evening to Remember

 

Guests arrived to a champagne red-carpet welcome at 7:00 PM, setting the tone for an unforgettable night. Chapter President Mr. Indika Mohottige warmly welcomed attendees from across Victoria, interstate, and Sri Lanka, acknowledging the Chief Guest, Mr. Heshana Kuruppu (President, CA Sri Lanka), Guest of Honour, Ms. Pradeepa Saram (Consul General of Sri Lanka to Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania), and Mr. Tishan Subasinghe (Vice President, CA Sri Lanka).

 

In his opening, Mr. Mohottige highlighted that event proceeds would support social welfare initiatives for underprivileged students and communities in both Sri Lanka and Australia. He also reflected on two major milestones – 65 years of CA Sri Lanka and 5 years of the Australia Chapter – expressing heartfelt gratitude to founding members, committees, and supporters for shaping the Chapter’s journey.

 

Inspiring Words & Recognition

 

Mr. Heshana Kuruppu commended the Chapter’s ongoing commitment to education in Sri Lanka, especially through the CA Sri Lanka – Australia Scholarship Fund, launched in 2023, which continues to create opportunities for future professionals.

 

The evening also honoured dedicated members, with Service Excellence Awards presented to
Mr. Anuruddha Dias (Past President), Mr. Senthuren Kularasan, Mr. Kishodaran Letchumanan, Mr. Isuru Abeynayake, Mr. Sithara Wijerathne, and Mr. Lalanka Amarasiri for their outstanding service to the Chapter as office holders in the ExCo before stepping down at the end of the last term. Special appreciation was extended to all outgoing Executive Committee members for their continued dedication to the Chapter’s mission.

 

Celebrating with Style

 

Guests indulged in a gourmet dinner with premium beverages, enjoyed live entertainment from the Mystery Band, and were wowed by a special performance from Ama Jayasinghe. The dance floor stayed packed until the night’s end, radiating the camaraderie and spirit of the Sri Lankan Chartered Accountants’ community in Australia.

Chartered Ball 2024 – The Golden Gala

CA Sri Lanka – Australia Chapter organized a successful and memorable event with the Chartered Ball 2024 – The Golden Gala. The event took place on June 8, 2024, at the Springvale City Hall in Victoria, Australia. The gala event was a significant occasion that brought together over 330 participants, including members of the CA Sri Lanka – Australia Chapter, their families, and friends. The event served as a platform for networking and socializing among the professional communities.

 

The evening began with a warm welcome address by the President of CA Sri Lanka – Australia Chapter, Krishan Kanagarajah, who highlighted the contributions of the event towards supporting underprivileged students in Sri Lanka. He acknowledged the presence of the President of CA Sri Lanka, Heshan Kuruppu. The President reflected on the chapter’s growth and recent activities, including the inaugural member community event in March 2024 and the successful business forum in Brisbane. He lastly expressed his gratitude to the main sponsors, advertisers, and supporting organizations such as CAANZ and CPA Australia.

 

The CA Sri Lanka President commended the chapter for its remarkable work and extended his heartfelt thanks to the scholarship funds.

 

The event’s main sponsors were Finmart Finance Brokers (Platinum Sponsor), Home Lands Holding (Gold Sponsor), Just Tint (Silver Sponsor), and Sri Lankan Airlines (Airline Partner), which sponsored the main prizes of two return airline tickets to Sri Lanka.

 

Professional awards were presented during the event, with recognition given to Heshana Kuruppu for his services to the CASL community. Special appreciation was also extended to outgoing executive committee members and founding members, Pavithra Siriwardhane, Thushara Sovis, Ishan Pethiyagoda, Sri Pathmanathan, and Kith De Silva, for their boundless contributions to the chapter.

The event featured entertainment by guest artist and compere Clifford Richards, with nonstop music provided by Band Mystery & DJ Hax. Additionally, there were raffle draws to support the scholarship fund and CSR activities both in Australia and Sri Lanka, including sponsor draws and entrance ticket draws. Guests enjoyed a variety of food and beverages, including beer sponsored by Two Rupees Brewing Co.

 

The wonderful organizing committee, guided by Krishan Kanagarajah as Chair and Anuruddha Dias as Co-Chair, supported by Indika Mohottige, Irani Narmada, Shelaani Sivananthan, Ashad Perera, Ishan Pethiyagoda, Senthuren Kularasan, Dinesh Arachchige, Thushara Sovis, Pavithra Siriwardhana, Prasad Algama, and Kishodaran Letchumanan, displayed outstanding dedication and collaboration towards the success of this event.

Inaugural Dinner Dance “Chartered Ball” on Saturday 13th May 2023

The CA Sri Lanka Australia Chapter (the Chapter) hosted its inaugural Chartered Ball at Grand on Princes, Melbourne Australia on 13 May. This glamorous event was attended by 313 guests including over 120 CA Sri Lanka members domiciled in Australia, who experienced a truly memorable night.
The objective of the occasion was to facilitate social networking, camaraderie and fellowship among
CA members in an entertaining atmosphere. And part of the proceeds of the event will be utilised towards a scholarship fund to help disadvantaged CA students in Sri Lanka.
The chief guest on the occasion was Mr. Sanjaya Bandara President of CA Sri Lanka while Mr. Sandith Samarasinghe Consul General of Sri Lanka to Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania was the guest of honour. Two past presidents of CA Sri Lanka Mr. Indrajith Fernando and Mr. Yohan Perera also attended the prestigious event.
A highlight of the evening was the felicitation of Mr. Sanjaya Bandara, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the profession. Current and past presidents of the Chapter, Mr. Anuruddha Dias, Dr.Pavithra Siriwardhane, and Mr. Millon Landers, presented him with a well-deserved award, acknowledging his dedication and leadership.
The Chapters Strategic Partners, CA ANZ, and CPA Australia, were also present, represented by Ms.Navini Peiris, Manager, International Liaison, and Mr. Richard Ferrier, General Manager, Victoria, respectively. In addition, presidents and representatives from University Alumni other Community
Associations were also present demonstrating the robust collaborations that the Chapter has built within the Australian community.
The guests were treated to an upbeat performance by the popular live band, Redemptions, whose diverse repertoire of music resonated throughout the ballroom, creating an uplifting and lively atmosphere.
To add excitement to the night, a raffle draw offered enticing prizes, including two return air tickets to Sri Lanka and complimentary stays at luxury hotels such as Cinnamon and Aitkin Spence.
