SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY - CA SRI LANKA AUSTRALIA CHAPTER INC.
This policy applies to the members of CA Sri Lanka Australia Chapter (the Chapter) and any other
persons that may be identified as a member of the CA Sri Lanka and part of the General WhatsApp
group. This includes where your comments, postings or profile can identify you as CA Sri Lanka
member, irrespective of whether the CA Sri Lanka is named.
Activities on social media should be considered public. Despite the availability of privacy functions
on social media, it is possible for content to be shared beyond intended recipients. This policy is for
the mutual protection of the CA Sri Lanka Australia Chapter and its members and is not intended to
prevent, discourage or unduly limit expression of personal opinions or online activities.
Only an authorized representative may manage the Chapter’s social media presence or post on the
Chapter’s behalf.
This policy covers, but is not limited to, the sites and services mentioned below, and is also intended
to cover any other social media services that are developed in the future:
a) Social networking sites (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram)
b) Professional networking services (e.g. LinkedIn)
c) Video and photo sharing websites (e.g. YouTube)
d) Micro-blogging (e.g. Twitter)
e) Forums and discussion boards (e.g. Google groups)
f) Online collaborations (e.g. Wikipedia)
g) Podcasting
h) Blogs including corporate blogs and personal blogs
i) Blogs hosted by traditional media outlets.
CA Sri Lanka Australia Chapter expects that all its members and any other persons that may be
identified as a member of the CA Sri Lanka will uphold the expected level of professional conduct
and ethical behaviors when using social media. It is critical that members of the CA Sri Lanka exhibit
a high standard of professional conduct to maintain public confidence in the Chapter’s and CA Sri
Lanka’s operations and reinforce the corporate values of transparency, accountability, respect and
responsibility.
To protect yourself and our reputation, you must adhere to the following guidelines:
a) Think before you post/publish or share information through such sites
b) Be thoughtful and show respect for people with whom you interact
c) Be respectful of the opinions, cultures and beliefs of others
d) Be mindful that what you post/publish will be public for a long time and may be available even
after you believe you have deleted it.
e) Take care to protect your personal brand and your privacy and understand a platform’s terms of
service.
f) Disclose any conflicts of interest that may arise from associations made through social media. This
includes when a personal interest could be perceived as influencing the members of the chapter
and the Members of the CA Sri Lanka.
g) If you post/publish material in your personal capacity where you could be identified as being
associated with us, you should include a disclaimer such as “The posts on this site are my own
and do not represent the plans or opinions of CASL Australia Chapter.” Irrespective of any
disclaimer, you are responsible for any contributions, comments or posts made to social media in
a personal capacity.
h) You must NOT at any time:
(i) Publish or post material that may be reasonably considered to be offensive, obscene,
defamatory, threatening, harassing, bullying, discriminatory, hateful, racist, sexist or
homophobic.
(ii) Publish or post material that infringes copyright, constitutes contempt of court, breaches a court
suppression order or is otherwise unlawful or in breach of your professional obligations; use
or disclose proprietary, commercially sensitive or confidential information.
(iii) Make negative references or comments about the Chapter, its members, the Executive
Committee or any other third party affiliated with the Chapter including Resource Persons, Other
Services Providers, or Sponsors and must refrain from sharing defensive, derogatory
responses, any confidential or personal information obtained through association with the
Chapter.
(iv) State or imply that you are authorized to speak on our behalf or state or give the impression
that any views you express are the views of the Chapter, unless you are authorized to do so.
(v) Communicate information about the Chapter, unless you are authorized to do so.
Publishing inappropriate content
If an authorized representative (Admin) of the CA Sri Lanka Australia Chapter identifies a message,
post, or publication that they deemed inappropriate, it will be reviewed and may be deleted without
notifying the respective member who posted it.
If an authorized representative for the social media of CA Sri Lanka Australia Chapter identifies an
unnecessary or inappropriate trends in messages with a considerable number of members involved,
the admin will restrict posting rights to “admin only” until the Executive Committee approves the
removal of this restriction.
Responding to Chapter’s Social media posts
The members of the Executive Committee of CA Sri Lanka Australia Chapter serve on a voluntary
basis, as do those managing the Chapter’s social media platforms. Therefore, responses to messages
or inquiries may not be immediate, and it could take a reasonable amount of time to provide a reply.
Policy on Voluntarily Leave and Rejoining
If a Chapter member voluntarily exits the Chapter’s social media groups, including WhatsApp groups,
the authorized representative (Admin) will remove the member from all related groups. Rejoining will
only be considered upon receiving an official request, accompanied by a sufficient explanation for
their departure. The Executive Committee will review the request, and if deemed reasonable, the
Admin will reinstate the member with the Committee’s approval.
Breach of this Social Media Policy
All the members should comply with this Social Media Policy and any breach of the policy will result
in the following actions:
a) Chapter Members: Disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the Section 3.3 of
the Constitution of the CA Sri Lanka Australia Chapter.
b) Non-Chapter Members: You will be removed from all social media connections and groups.
Additionally, you may be required to remove any content deemed inappropriate.
